Building a new energy future

We are unrelenting consumers of energy; we have an unquenchable demand for power and, we will not forfeit this need even if that means continuing our reliance on a traditional energy formula. This is despite the fact that we often stand against the old energy order, believing that energy companies must and should do more to move towards green technologies.
At DSV, we do not believe that we should sit ideally by whilst one of the largest industries in the world attempts to make this shift. We recognise that this transition will take time and we need to bring forth technologies that allow for a more effective energy formula (making improvements in areas like safety and the limitation of harmful by-products), as well as introducing greener technological innovations.
To this end, we’re assembling the best and the brightest to deliver a shift that future generations might thank us for most.

Carbon Negative Operations

Effective, large scale carbon capture and storage technologies are essential for us to meet our global emissions targets. Without them, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that the cost of big emissions cuts would more than double. The structure of the oil and gas sector presents several particularly interesting opportunities for carbon capture technologies:
– The capture of carbon at source, throughout the sector;
– The safe storage of carbon in disused wells;
– The conversion of captured carbon to other useful products.
Our aim here is to create a range of carbon-capture focused companies that not only help the oil and gas sector become ‘cleaner’ but create a new growth sectors in Aberdeen (e.g. well-based carbon capture systems) that truly ‘Transform Tomorrow’.

Oil and gas automation

We are seeking new ways to apply recent advances in robotics, automation and AI to the oil and gas sector.
We’re looking to massively improve operational safety and efficiency, which will translate to lower carbon emissions (as less is wasted operationally) and a reduction in the risks to human life and the environment (through the removal of human error and improved monitoring of abandoned well sites).
We are seeking technologies that:
– Enhance safety in the oil industry: remote detection of faults, corrosion, leaks. Automated advanced warning systems. Technologies that reduce human contact with the high risk processes;
– Improve efficiency, particularly with respect to energy across the ecosystem;
– Allow the automation of the decommission process, of both ageing rigs and in the design of new platforms.

Energy movement

When you think about the oil and gas sector and reduce it back to its simplest function, it’s aim is to get energy out of the ground and transport it to where it’s needed.
Locked in hydrocarbons, the extraction, transport and usage of this energy presents many challenges; extraction and transport present issues with oil spills and leakages, usage of the energy presents issues with CO2 release.
We are seeking truly transformative technologies that revolutionise the movement of energy from well to customer:
– Technologies that convert the reserves to electrical energy at source;
– Technologies that can store and transport electrical energy “wirelessly” from well to shore. Ideally, these are compatible with other energy sources like  wind and solar;
– Technologies that convert currently wasteful processes such as gas flaring to electrical energy.
